The mission of the Greensboro Association is to conceive, advance, and support village initiatives and organizations that enhance our community, and to protect Caspian Lake and its surrounding environment. In support of our mission, we have several funds and programs that impact our community.
Fund For Greensboro
The Fund for Greensboro (FFG) is dedicated to supporting social, environmental, educational, artistic, cultural, recreational, economic, and human service initiatives in Greensboro and the surrounding community. The FFG operates under the auspices of the Greensboro Association, a registered 501(c)(3) organization. It is supported by tax-deductible gifts from individuals who wish to contribute to the vitality of the Greensboro community today and in the future. The Fund for Greensboro currently consists of three funds: the Unrestricted Fund, the Lake Reserve Fund, and the Community Endowment Fund. Read more here.
Grants Program
The Grants Committee Mission Statement: We support town initiatives and organizations that enhance our Greensboro community for both year-round and seasonal residents. For our previous fiscal year ending June 30, 2021, the GA Grants Committee only awarded 6 grants totaling $6,500 to town projects and community service applicants. Applications were down due to many organizations and projects being put hold on during the pandemic. Read the 2021 report here.
Lake Protection
Helping to maintain the quality of Caspian Lake is one of the most important roles of the Association. Towards this end, the GA has monitored water quality for many years on a weekly basis during the summer months. A Lake Protection Committee was established in the 1970s to study run-off from streams feeding the lake and the resultant build-up of the deltas, and an Aquatic Nuisances Committee examines ways to prevent the infestation of Eurasian milfoil and zebra mussels. The Greensboro Association is an active participant in the Federation of Vermont Lakes and Ponds whose purpose is to exchange information and solve mutual problems among its members in close cooperation with state environmental agencies. Another accomplishment of the Association was to limit the use of jet skis and waterski courses on the lake, which has substantially contributed to lake protection and noise reduction.
Member Portal, Directory, and Green Sheet
The Greensboro Association is now utilizing new membership management software. This streamlines dues payment and an updated and functional online membership directory. Every member has a username and password that enables them to update and confirm contact information, pay dues and donations online.
Every other year, the Association publishes a member directory that includes a range of valuable community information. The directories are sold at Willey’s. We also publish an online “Green Sheet” calendar of traditional events that take place each year.
