The Greensboro Association

2017 President’s Report August 3, 2017

We continue our work on lake protection and community programs. The lake remains clean and free of invasive species and we continue to address member concerns as they arise and facilitate communications among members and with the Greensboro community. We are working on the lake levels issue and we updated the Lake Rental Guidelines (please share this with visitors, family members and renters who access Caspian Lake). We are beginning conversations about the environmental impacts of fireworks and lanterns as questions are raised. We voted to increase annual dues to $25 for next year after many years at $20. Dues support the work of the Association including newsletters, directories, website, swimming, etc.. We are working on the Fund for Greensboro which will position the association to expand the grants program, protect the lake and support important projects in the future.

Thank You to Our Board of Trustees and Committees

This year, we say goodbye and thank you to two board members, Clay Simpson and Whitney Sowles. Whitney has recently been orchestrating the Spring Newsletter and she served as the Association Secretary. Clay led our efforts to establish the Fund for Greensboro and enhance the Grants Program and he agreed to stay on beyond his term to continue this vital support.  Clay’s departure from the board, reminds us of the fine work by Clay’s daughter a few years ago, Annie Paumgarten, who created 50 Ways to Preserve, Protect and Enhance Caspian Lake.  This outstanding document is featured on our website and is a guideline we use for lake protection.

Please extend your appreciation to our volunteer members of the Board of Trustees who bring their insight and judgment and our Committees where all the work of the GA takes place.

Looking Ahead

Our focus continues on our mission: to conceive, advance, and support village initiatives and organizations that enhance our community and to protect Caspian Lake and its surrounding environment for both full and part-time residents of the town of Greensboro.

Priorities in the next year will continue to be focused on lake protection, community support and building the Fund for Greensboro. We look forward to your participation.

Respectfully submitted,

John C. Stone III
